Hifz and its Importance



IMPORTANCE:




Memorization of the Holy Quran is a spiritual and physical exercise. It’s miraculous that you’re able to admit the Qur’an to memory with the will of Allah Ta’aalah. If you want to take advantage of this blessing, you should be able to receive it and therefore put effort in physically and spiritually to achieve it and to get the maximum benefits in this world and in the world hereafter.

It comes in a Hadith that at the day of judgement the parents of Hafiz of Quran will be crowned with such a precious crown that its light will be spreading throughout the paradise. When people will watch it, they will desire of being like them and they will be thinking that these are the Prophets. But in reality they would be the parents of Huffaz(Memorizers of the Quran). How blessed would be the state of the Memorizers themselves when their parents will be bestowed with such a gift!

PROCEDURE

1. New Memorization ( Sabaq)
This is the new lesson you will memorize every day.
2. Newly Memorized Portion ( Sabaqi)
This is the amount of verses of the Holy Qur’an you will have memorized in the last  20 to 30 day. This part is really important, because it will show whether the verse you have memorized will be solid for the rest of your life or not. 
3. Old Memorization Portion(Manzil)
This is part of the Holy Quran you’ve memorized and reviewed for at least 20 to 30 days consecutively. The amount you review and recite to your teacher depends on how much Qur’an you’ve memorized. Once you have memorized the whole, you’ll be left with the old memorization only. This will continue for the rest of the life as keeping it fix is a great responsibility.


METHODOLOGY OF MEMORIZATION 

FOR STUDENTS WITH HIGH CAPABILITY

Divide the whole lesson into 3-4 parts. For example if we have 12 lined lesson, divide it into 4 lined parts. 
First review the lesson and become fluent, revising 10 times. Then memorize be heart. Then the part should be recited to the Quran teacher. Then the next parts divided according to the lines should be recited orally by heart. If the same lesson, after memorization, is repeatedly recited almost 20 times by the student, there is no chance he will forget it, provided that it should be a loud recital.


FOR STUDENTS WITH LESS CAPABILITY
One verse should be divided into 3-4 parts. Let’s say if a verse is 3 lines longer, it must be properly gone through and revised until fluency develops. Next the memorization starts. Then the next line should be memorized the same way. Then the third line should be memorized the same way. When the parts of the verse are memorized, the whole verse should be recited once and checked if it is strengthened.

The first time we divided the verse into parts then the whole verse is recited to Qari. Next verse must be divided into 2 parts, e.g. if there are 10 lines, we divide it into 5 & 5 and then recite. The fourth time the whole lesson should be heard by the Qari once. 



NOTE: When the lesson is being memorized, the followings must be taken care of, otherwise the lesson won’t be memorized properly and time would pass in vain.

1.    Students should be in a separate room, and in the surroundings none should be there other than the aide for memorization.
2.    The student shall recite with a loud voice and should have his finger on the text he is reciting from. If he is reciting by heart, he must be lowering his eyes and not look hither and thither.
3.    The lesson must be memorized slowly and gradually taking care of tajwid principles. Otherwise later on recitation would contain tajwid mistakes.
4.    Tajwid principles should be put on the copy of Quran with pencil or else have a notebook to put them on.
